Sybase Classic washed out

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., May 19 (UPI) -- Inclement weather further disrupted the LPGA Sybase Classic at New Rochelle, N.Y., Friday, as the first round was suspended again without a shot being taken.

The first round was delayed for 83 minutes Thursday by heavy rain. Fifteen players were on the course when the round was halted.

Players who had not finished the round Thursday are scheduled to tee off Saturday at 7 a.m. The second round is scheduled to begin 15 minutes later.

Tournament officials were considering whether to shorten the event to 54 holes.

Natalie Gulbis, Beth Bauer and 2003 champion Hee-Won Han shot 3-under 68 Thursday, and shared the lead after one round. Nancy Scranton shot 2-under-par 69 along with Kim Saiki, Teresa Lu and Allison Hanna. Sun Young Yoo is 2-under through 17 holes.

Women's world No. 1 Annika Sorenstam and defending champion Paula Creamer share 24th place at 1-over 72.
