Oklahoma State's Eddie Sutton retires

STILLWATER, Okla., May 19 (UPI) -- Oklahoma State men's basketball coach Eddie Sutton, who is just two wins shy of 800 for his career, announced his retirement Friday.

Sutton also announced that he will stay with the school with a new job in the alcohol education and support department at the university.

Sutton was forced to take a medical leave of absence in February for the remainder of this past season while he recovered from injuries sustained in an alcohol-related car accident.

Sutton amassed a 798-315 record over 35 years of NCAA Division I coaching. The 798-victory total is fifth all-time among NCAA men's coaches. He previously coached at Creighton, Arkansas and Kentucky and took Oklahoma State and Arkansas teams to the NCAA's Final Four.

Sutton's son, Sean, will take over for his father at Oklahoma State. He assumed the reins of the program after his father's medical leave.
