Phillies catcher out with knee bruise

PHILADELPHIA, May 16 (UPI) -- Philadelphia Phillies catcher Mike Lieberthal has had an MRI on his left knee that showed bruising that could sideline him for another two weeks.

Dr. Michael Ciccotti confirmed Tuesday that the MRI showed a significant bone bruise and a minimal, stable fracture of the bone. All of the muscles, tendons and ligaments are intact.

The 34-year-old catcher was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 5 after being hit on the left knee by a pitch from John Thomson during a 6-3 win over the Atlanta Braves on May 4.

Lieberthal was batting .297 with 19 hits, including seven doubles, and seven RBI in 20 games this season.
