SEATTLE, May 10 (UPI) -- Seattle starter Felix Hernandez allowed one run over 7 2/3 innings in helping the Mariners to an 8-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Ichiro Suzuki had three hits and Carl Everett chipped in a home run Tuesday for the Seattle offense in beating Tampa Bay's Doug Waechter (0-2), who gave up seven runs and 11 hits over seven innings.
Hernandez (2-4) struck out eight and gave up five hits, including a run-scoring single by Jonny Gomes in the Devil Rays' third.
But by then the Mariners had scored twice on Kenji Johjima's bases-loaded single and Seattle added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Suzuki knocked in the third Seattle run and Everett made the score 4-1 with his fifth home run of the season.
The Mariners made the score lopsided with a 4-run eighth in which Jose Lopez batted in the final two runs.
