Forsberg needs surgery on both feet

PHILADELPHIA, May 10 (UPI) -- Forward Peter Forsberg of the Philadelphia Flyers needs surgery on both feet and likely will miss the 2006-07 season.

"We weren't caught by surprise," said General Manager Bob Clarke, who said in a conference call that Forsberg played hurt after returning from the Olympics in February.

"The right one is much worse then the left one but we are going to have to do the left one too," Forsberg said.

Forsberg, whose career began with Quebec in 1994, played for nine seasons with Colorado. He has 235 goals and 581 assists in 640 games.

He appeared in 60 games in the 2005-'06 season when he had 19 goals and 56 assists for 75 points.

"We want to get it done as soon as possible," he added. "We are just trying to set up a time, as soon as the doctor can clear his schedule, probably the beginning of next week and get it done as soon as possible."
