Top-seeded Bartoli upset in Prague

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, May 8 (UPI) -- Kaia Kanepi of Estonia upset top-seeded Marion Bartoli of France 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2, in Monday's first-round action at the Prague Open.

A pair of seeds avoided upsets, as No. 3 Israeli Shahar Peer defeated Czech Nikola Frankova 6-3, 6-1 and No. 8 Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko beat Slovakian Martina Sucha 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.

In other Day-1 action, France's Stephanie Foretz, American Meghann Shaughnessy and Czech Zuzana Ondraskova were winners.

Ondraskova, last year's Prague runner-up to Russian Dinara Safina, defeated Argentine Mariana Diaz-Oliva 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
