TUSCALOOSA, Ala., May 4 (UPI) -- Mike Shula has a new six-year contract as head football coach at the University of Alabama.
On its Web site, the school said the pact runs through Jan. 31, 2012 and will pay him $1.5 million a year, a raise of nearly $650,000 annually.
The 40-year-old Shula also got a one-time signing bonus of $200,000.
"I am very excited to be at The University of Alabama," Shula said. "I'm excited about our future at Alabama and I love the university. This is a great place to live and work. With our new facilities and support areas, our future is very bright."
Shula has a record of 20-17 in three seasons. The Crimson Tide went 10-2 overall (6-2 SEC West) in the 2005-06 season, and was eighth in the final USA Today/ESPN coaches poll.
The contract makes Shula the fifth-highest paid football coach in the Southeastern Conference.
