MLB: Kansas City 1, Minnesota 0

MINNEAPOLIS, May 4 (UPI) -- Jeremy Affeldt and three relievers combined on a five-hit shutout Thursday night as Kansas City beat the Minnesota Twins, 1-0.

Emil Brown had three hits and scored the only run on an RBI single by catcher Paul Bako in the second inning for the Royals (6-20), who snapped a six-game losing streak. Bako had two hits.

Affeldt (2-2) yielded only three hits in five scoreless innings with six walks and two strikeouts.

Torii Hunter had two of the Twins' five hits, while loser Carlos Silva gave up one run and eight hits in seven innings with one walk and two strikeouts. Minnesota, which has split its last four games, left 11 men on base.
