MLB: Detroit 4, Kansas City 1

DETROIT, May 2 (UPI) -- Brandon Inge had a two-run homer and Mike Maroth turned in six solid innings Tuesday as Detroit handed Kansas City its 12th consecutive road defeat, 4-1.

The Royals haven't won away from home this season. By losing their first 11 road game this season, the Royals tied the 1934 Philadelphia Phillies and the 1935 St. Louis Browns for the fourth-longest streak to start a season.

Maroth (4-1) gave up one run on four hits with one walk. Detroit starters turned in quality starts in 13 of the last 14 games, during which they are 10-3 with a 1.87 earned run average.

Mark Redman (0-2) gave up three runs on five hits with two walks and one strikeout to take the loss. Reggie Sanders' RBI double accounted for the lone Kansas City run.
