TALLADEGA, Ala., April 30 (UPI) -- The Aaron's 499 Nextel Cup auto race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway was postponed until Monday because of rain.
Sunday's showers started just as the 43-car field was ready to start the race. Crews tried to keep the track dry, but it was a losing battle as the rain persisted.
The race was to have been run a day after the birth date of the late Dale Earnhardt Sr., who would have been 55 on Saturday.
His son, Dale Jr., will honor his father by using the No. 3 on his car. Earnhardt Sr., who captured his 76th and final career victory at Talladega in October 2000, was killed in an accident at Daytona on Feb. 18, 2001.
