MLB: Boston 9, Tampa Bay 6

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 29 (UPI) -- Jason Varitek knocked in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning Saturday night to help the Boston Red Sox beat Tampa Bay, 9-6.

Kevin Youkilis and Wily Mo Pena each had two hits and two RBI; while Trot Nixon also drove in two runs for the Red Sox (14-10). Boston broke a three-game slide.

Winner Keith Foulke (2-1) gave up one run and one hit in two innings of relief. Jonathan Papelbon struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to record his 10th save of the season while extending his scoreless innings streak to 14 1/3 innings this season.

With the save, Papelbon broke the all-time rookie record for saves in the month of April.

Greg Norton, Jonny Gomes and Toby Hall all homered for the Devil Rays (10-14).

Tampa Bay has dropped six of its last eight contests.

The loser was Tyler Walker (0-2).
