Massu wins, Clement out at Casablanca

CASABLANCA, Morocco, April 26 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Chilean Nicolas Massu won, but fifth-seeded Frenchman Arnaud Clement lost Wednesday at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca, Morocco.

A 2004 dual-Olympic gold medalist, Massu came from behind to beat Italian Alessio Di Mauro, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-1, on the red clay at Complexe Al Amal. Clement fell to his fellow Frenchman Nicolas Mahut, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).

Massu will meet Mahut in Friday's quarterfinals.

Czech Jiri Vanek beat sixth-seeded Austrian Jurgen Melzer, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, and German Bjorn Phau beat Algerian qualifier Slimane Saoudi, 6-4, 6-4. Vanek and Phau will meet in the quarterfinals.

The eventual winner will collect $54,550.
