CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 26 (UPI) -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. will use the No. 3 on his car at the Aaron's 499 Nextel Cup race at Talladega, Ala., in tribute to his father.
DEI Enterprises also will use a nearly all-black paint scheme made famous by Earnhardt's father, and DEI Enterprises drivers Martin Truex and Paul Menard will use similar paint schemes in Sunday's race.
"I was very excited when I saw the car," Earnhardt told the Birmingham News Tuesday. "I think the car looks good and I think it's a cool way to honor my dad. It's going to be a lot of fun to be behind the wheel of that car, and see the reaction it gets from other drivers on the track."
Dale Earnhardt Sr. was killed in an accident at Daytona on Feb. 18, 2001. He would have been 55 on Saturday.
He captured his 76th and final career victory at Talladega in October 2000.
