NBA: Dallas 103, Memphis 93

DALLAS, April 24 (UPI) -- Dirk Nowitzki scored a game-high 31 points Sunday night as Dallas beat Memphis, 103-93, in Game One of their Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Nowitzki added 11 rebounds and three assists.

Jason Terry had 20 points, three rebounds and four assists; Jerry Stackhouse scored 14 points; Marquis Daniels totaled 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals; and Erick Dampier had 12 points, 12 rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots for the Mavericks, who are trying to avert past playoff failures this year.

Dallas had the second-best record in the conference, but drew the fourth seed in the playoffs.

Pau Gasol had 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots; Eddie Jones had 16 points and two assists; while both Jake Tsakalidis and Bobby Jackson scored 11 points for the Grizzlies, who entered the post-season with a five-game winning streak. Dallas will host Game Two on Wednesday night.
