ETTENHEIM, Germany, April 23 (UPI) -- The United States Sunday advanced to the semifinals of this year's Federation Cup with a 3-2 victory over Germany.
Unheralded Jamea Jackson clinched the victory by beating Martina Muller, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. Jackson is No. 75 in the latest women's world rankings.
The victory increased the United States' all-time Fed Cup record against Germany to 7-4.
"I am extremely proud of my team," said U.S. captain Zina Garrison. "We hit together, fight together, have dinner together. I couldn't wish for a better spirit."
Because of injuries, this event was void of a number of the world's marquee names, including America's Lindsay Davenport (foot), and both Williams sisters, Venus (elbow) and Serena (knees).
Muller played for the injured Julia Schruff (calf).
