MLB: Tampa Bay 5, Boston 1

BOSTON, April 20 (UPI) -- Johnny Gomes hit two solo home runs Thursday night to help Tampa Bay beat the Boston Red Sox, 5-1.

He hit his first homer of the night off Boston starter Tim Wakefield in the seventh inning. The second came against reliever Julian Tavarez in the ninth.

Travis Lee and Ty Wigginton also had RBI for the Devil Rays (8-8), who avoided a three-game sweep with the victory. Winner Scott Kazmir (2-1) allowed one run and four hits in 5 2/3 innings with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Dan Miceli earned his fourth save.

Dustin Mohr hit his second homer of the season in the second inning to account for Boston's only run.

In eight innings, loser Wakefield (1-3) surrendered four hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.

Boston had a four-game winning streak broken while Tampa Bay snapped a streak of eight straight losses at Fenway Park.
