NBA: Washington 96, Detroit 80

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 19 (UPI) -- Caron Butler had 33 points and 12 rebounds Wednesday night as Washington surprised the Detroit Pistons, 96-80.

With the victory, the Wizards locked up the fifth playoff seed in the Eastern Conference.

Antawn Jamison had 21 points and nine rebounds; and Gilbert Arenas had 18 points, five rebounds, seven assists and two steals for the Wizards (42-40), who closed the regular season with a three-game winning streak.

Detroit, which is the No. 1 seed in the East, played its starters sparingly.

Carlos Delfino, the Detroit player in double figures, had 17 points, eight rebounds and two steals; Richard Hamilton had nine points, three assists and two rebounds; while Rasheed Wallace added nine points, three rebounds and three blocked shots.

The Pistons, who dropped their last two regular season games, finished 64-18. It was the first season sweep for Washington against Detroit since the 1968-69 season.
