Drew singled in Rafael Furcal, who reached on a bunt single and took second on a ground out in the fifth inning, to give Los Angeles a 1-0 lead.

The Cubs used singles from Jacque Jones and Matt Murton to set up a run-scoring ground out by Neifi Perez off Dodgers starter Derek Lowe.

Lowe gave up five hits over seven innings but left without a decision. The victory went to Los Angeles' Takashi Saito (1-0), who retired all six Chicago batters he faced, including four on strike outs.
