UNIONDALE, N.Y., April 18 (UPI) -- Jeff Carter broke a tie with a goal midway through the third period Tuesday and Robert Esche made 31 saves as Philadelphia beat the New York Islanders, 4-1.
R.J. Umberger got his 20th goal for the Flyers, who now have 101 points and sit in first place in the division after the New York Rangers 5-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators.

Simon Gagne and Michal Handzus added empty-net goals in the victory.
Bruno Gervais scored the only goal for the Islanders, while Garth Snow allowed two goals on 24 shots in the losing effort.
