SEATTLE, April 17 (UPI) -- The Seattle SuperSonics Monday exercised the contractual option for Coach Bob Hill for the 2006-07 season.
"Based on the progress we've made as a team over the last third of the season, Bob is the best candidate to get the Sonics back to the playoffs next year," said Seattle GM Rick Sund.
"The playoffs are still our No. 1 goal. It's important for the players and assistant coaches to know that Bob is going to be the head coach next season. We continue to move forward as a team in a positive direction for next season."
Hill took over for Coach Bob Weiss on Jan. 3, compiling a 21-29 record, despite constant roster upheaval throughout the season.
In 11 NBA seasons as a head coach, Hill has a record of 278-241 with San Antonio, Indiana and New York. Hill also has international experience, coaching the 1988-89 Italian Cup champion Vitrus Knorr.
