NHL: Detroit 7, Chicago 3

CHICAGO, April 14 (UPI) -- Brendan Shanahan had a hat trick Thursday night to lead Detroit over the Chicago Blackhawks, 7-3.

With the victory, the powerful Red Wings set an NHL record with their 11th straight road win. It was the 17th time in his career that Shanahan scored three goals in a game.

Henrik Zetterberg scored twice; Tomas Holmstrom and Nicklas Lidstrom both scored once; Lidstrom also had three assists; while Manny Legace made 28 saves for Detroit (56-15-8).

The Red Wings, who won their sixth straight game, are the Western Conference champions with 120 points.

Radim Vrbata had a goal and an assist; Kyle Calder and Patrick Sharp also scored; Radim Vrbata, Brent Seabrook, and Mark Bell had assists; while Nikolai Khabibulin and Craig Anderson combined for 33 save on 40 shots for the Blackhawks (24-42-13).

Chicago has lost its last four games. Detroit was 7-1 against the Blackhawks this season.
