HOUSTON, April 12 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Andy Roddick Wednesday night beat Oliver Marach of Austria, 6-3, 6-4, in a second round match at the Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston.
Roddick won the event in 2001, 2002 and 2005 and has made the tournament final five straight years.
Elsewhere, Germany's Tommy Haas, who beat Roddick in the tournament final in 2004, topped fellow German Alexander Waske, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7); No. 7 seed Paul Goldstein of the U.S. beat Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia, 6-3, 6-3; Marcos Daniel of Brazil knocked off sixth-seeded Luis Horna of Peru, 6-3, 6-4; and fourth-seeded Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus rallied to beat American Jesse Witten, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).
The 2006 Houston champion will claim $52,000.
