San Antonio, which played without Manu Ginobili (left calf contusion), avoided its first three-game skid since March 2005 and is one game ahead of Dallas for the top spot in the Western Conference and the Southwest Division.

Jake Tsakalidis had 15 points and seven rebounds; Pau Gasol -- whose potential game-tying shot in the final seconds was foiled by Duncan -- had 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and eight turnovers; and Shane Battier had 10 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots for the Grizzlies (44-33), who had a three-game winning streak broken.
