BALTIMORE, April 6 (UPI) -- Mark Hendrickson hurled a three-hit shutout Thursday night as Tampa Bay beat the Baltimore Orioles, 2-0.
It was the Devil Rays' first win of the season, the first victory for new manager Joe Maddon, and the Orioles' first loss of the new season.
Hendrickson (1-0) faced only 31 batters. He walked one and fanned five.
In seven innings, losing pitcher Kris Benson, making his first start as an Oriole, gave up only four hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts.
Baltimore had won the first two games of the three-game set by a combined 25-12.
Earlier Thursday, the Devil Rays placed shortstop Julio Lugo on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 4, with an abdominal strain.
Tampa Bay has only 13 shutouts in its history.
