RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif., April 5 (UPI) -- Dean Goldfine Wednesday was named to captain the U.S. Davis Cup team this weekend in its California match against Chile.
Goldfine, who was fired as coach of Andy Roddick in February, will do the job in the temporary absence of Patrick McEnroe, who is not available because his pregnant wife is expected to give birth.
"In terms of running the team, I mean, it's pretty much the same as it always is," said Goldfine. "I've been, obviously, to quite a few ties with these guys and see how Patrick runs the show. So it's pretty much status quo."
The U.S. team consists of Roddick, who is No. 4 the world, 8th-ranked James Blake and twins Bob and Mike Bryan, the world's top-ranked doubles tandem.
The event will be played at Rancho Mirage, Calif., Friday-Sunday.
