NHL: Los Angeles 1, Vancouver 0

LOS ANGELES, April 4 (UPI) -- Mathieu Garon posted his second consecutive shutout in guiding the Los Angeles Kings to a 1-0 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

The decision Monday pulled Los Angeles into a tie with San Jose for ninth in the NHL Western Conference with 85 points. They are two points behind Vancouver for the final conference playoff spot.

Garon stopped 23 shots in the game, including 12 in the first period in earning his eighth career shutout. He stopped Dallas, also 1-0, Saturday.

Vancouver goalie Alex Auld had 37 saves in the loss, including 19 in the second period when the Kings peppered him with a total of 20.

Pavol Demitra, returning to the lineup after missing eight games because of a concussion, scored the game's goal, beating a screened Auld with a shot form the right side during a power play.
