CHICAGO, April 2 (UPI) -- Pitcher Jose Contreras of the Chicago White Sox Saturday agreed three-year contract extension.
The team said on its Web site that the deal is worth $29 million.
The 34-year-old right-hander, a native of Cuba, will make $8 million in 2005 and is set to receive $9 million in 2007 and $10 million for the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
"I'm happy that I'm going to stay here for a little while and stay with this team," he said through third-base coach Joey Cora. "I wanted to get something done before the season started so I could just focus on the season and get rid of any trade rumors. I'm happy here and my family's happy here."
Contreras, who also has pitched for the New York Yankees, was 15-7 with a 3.61 ERA in 32 starts in 2005. In the post-season, he went 3-1 to help the White Sox win the World Series.
