Broadhurst defends in Portugal

CASCAIS, Portugal, April 2 (UPI) -- Paul Broadhurst shot a closing 5-under 67 Sunday to defend his title at the Algarve Open de Portugal in Cascais.

He won the event with a birdie at the 18th and final hole.

At 17-under 271, Broadhurst was one-stoke better than his fellow Englishman Anthony Wall. Wall also shot 67 on Sunday.

Andres Romero (70) of Argentina was alone in third place at 15-under 273. Third-round leader Ricardo Gonzalez of Spain could only muster a 71 over the final 18 holes, and finished 14-under 274, tied with Charl Schwartzel (68) of South Africa for fourth.

Jose Manuel Lara of Spain was a shot further back at 13-under 275, followed by Mattias Eliasson (69) of Sweden and Markus Brier (69) of Austria at 11-under 277.

Broadhurst is the tournament's fourth repeat champion.
