Women's dunker upsets male counterpart

INDIANAPOLIS, March 31 (UPI) -- Marquette's Steve Novak won the 18th annual college slam dunk and 3-point title but then lost a shootout with Lindsay Bowen of Michigan State.

Novak lost the overall title 26-17 to Bowen.

Novak won his title by beating Notre Dame's Chris Quinn, 23-18, then had to wait 45 minutes before he could take on the women's winner. By then, his hot hand had cooled and Bowen ran away with their shootout.

"There's no question, when you're warm you're warm," Novak told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Duke's J.J. Redick, considered by many to be the top shooter in college basketball, was receiving an award elsewhere in town and unable to compete.
