LOS ANGELES, March 29 (UPI) -- Veteran second baseman Jeff Kent Wednesday agreed to a terms on a one-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In his first full season with the Dodgers in 2005, Kent batted .289 with 29 home runs and 105 RBI. For his career, he has a batting average of .289 with 331 homers, 1,312 RBI and a .512 slugging percentage for four different teams.
"Jeff is the consummate professional and someday he's going to find himself in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown," said General Manager Ned Colletti. "I feel fortunate that we were able to come to this agreement to keep him in a Dodger uniform for at least the next two seasons and hopefully more."
Kent, 38, is baseball's all-time leading home run hitter among second basemen with 306, has been an all-star five times, and earned his fourth Silver Slugger award as the league's top offensive player at his position last season.
