MONTREAL, March 28 (UPI) -- Cristobal Huet made 36 saves Tuesday to record his sixth shutout of the season and lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 2-0 win over the New York Islanders.
Chris Higgins scored the game-deciding goal in the first period and Huet held off a late Islanders power play for Montreal, which has won four straight games.
The Canadians, with 81 points, are seeking their first set of back-to-back playoff appearances since 1997-98. They moved into a three-way tie for sixth place, with Tampa Bay and New Jersey in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta, which was idle, fell five points behind all three teams.
Rick DiPietro stopped 34 shots for New York, which has lost two of its last three games. The Isles are 12th in the Eastern Conference standings.
