NHL: Atlanta 6, New Jersey 5 (OT)

ATLANTA, March 23 (UPI) -- Peter Bondra scored 63 seconds into overtime Thursday night as Atlanta improved its playoff hopes with a 6-5 decision over New Jersey.

Atlanta entered the game one point in front of Montreal in the race for the final playoff position from the Eastern Conference.

The Thrashers overcame a three-goal deficit in the third period by scoring four straight. Slava Kozlov tied the game with 3:07 to play and Patrik Stefan put the Thrashers in front with 2:01 remaining in the third, but Brian Gionta tied it for the Devils on the power play with 62 seconds to go.

Atlanta struck quickly in overtime with Bondra tipping in a shot from Andy Sutton.

It was New Jersey's third straight loss.
