EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., March 21 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Vikings agreed Tuesday to a two-year deal with former Pro Bowl fullback Tony Richardson.
Richardson, 34, spent the first 11 seasons of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs.
"I am personally disappointed that we were not able to work out a new contract for Tony Richardson," said Chiefs' President Carl Peterson.
Minnesota was in need of a veteran fullback since its new coach, Brad Childress, plans to implement a West Coast style offense. Childress' predecessor, Mike Tice, used a one-back scheme and no fullbacks were on the Vikings roster last season.
Richardson, a former Auburn star, entered the NFL with Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 1994.
Richardson has 1,576 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 395 carries in his career. He caught 177 balls for 1,298 yards and nine touchdowns. In 2000, his best season, he rushed for 697 yards and had 58 receptions for 468 yards.
