Nolan Ryan supports Marlins idea

SAN ANTONIO, March 21 (UPI) -- San Antonio has received support from Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan to its county's effort to bring the Florida Marlins to the city.

Ryan was quoted as saying Texas can support a third Major League Baseball franchise besides the Houston Astros and the Rangers in Arlington. Ryan said San Antonio would be the right place for such a franchise, reports the San Antonio Express-News.

"The demographics of the state allows for another team to come here," Ryan said. "Given the projected growth of the state and the exciting things happening in San Antonio, I think (San Antonio) would support (a team)."

Ryan may even consider investing in the Marlins if the team moves to Texas, the report said.

Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff is spearheading local efforts to land the Marlins, the report said. He says the Marlins must include local owners in a minority role if they move to San Antonio.
