Davenport withdraws with back injury

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla., March 20 (UPI) -- American Lindsay Davenport has pulled out of this week's NASDAQ-100 Open tennis tournament.

Davenport, the No. 5 women's player in the world, will miss the tournament due to a back injury.

"I am very disappointed to have to withdraw from the NASDAQ-100 Open because of an injury that I sustained to my back this past week," said Davenport. "I was hoping to recover in time but unfortunately I'm not yet ready to play competitively."

Davenport has played in three tournaments this year, reaching the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and the semifinals in Dubai.
