ATLANTA, March 16 (UPI) -- Marian Hossa had a goal and an assist Thursday night to help the Atlanta Flames beat the New York Islanders, 4-2.
Scott Mellanby, Andy Sutton and Bobby Holik also scored goals; Slava Kozlov, Marc Savard, Ilya Kovalchuk, Serge Aubin and Brad Larsen had assists; and goaltender Kari Lehtonen made 28 saves for the Flames (32-28-6), who have won five of their past six games. Atlanta moved one point behind Montreal in the race for the final spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Shawn Bates and Alexei Yashin each scored goals; Radek Martinek, Sean Bergenheim and Allan Rourke had assists; and goalie Rick DiPietro made 35 saves for the Islanders (31-30-4), who had a four-game win streak broken.
Atlanta out-shot New York, 39-30. The teams combined to go scoreless on seven power play opportunities.
