Henin-Hardenne wins at Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 14 (UPI) -- Top seed Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium downed Japan's Aiko Nakamura, 6-0, 6-0 in third-round action at the $2.1 million Pacific Life Open Monday.

Henin-Hardenne, the 2004 champion at Indian Wells, set up a fourth-round encounter against 14th seed Ai Sugiyama of Japan. Sugiyama upended 18th seed Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 7-5.

Fourth seed Elena Dementieva of Russia, playing at Indian Wells for a sixth time, defeated 28th seed Sania Mirza of India, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Next up for Dementieva will be a fourth-round match with Na Li of China. Li leveled American Vania King, 6-2, 6-4.

In other top-10 seed action, Finland's Emma Laine got past No. 6 Flavia Pennetta of Italy, who retired due to an ankle injury. No. 7 German Anna-Lena Groenefeld overcame No. 26 Israeli Anna Smashnova 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
