Wright State fires basketball coach

DAYTON, Ohio, March 13 (UPI) -- Wright State fired men's basketball Coach Paul Biancardi Monday because of his involvement in Ohio State's infractions report released by the NCAA Friday.

Biancardi was an assistant under Jim O'Brien for 13 years and was with him while at Ohio State in 1999 when the NCAA uncovered that the two were involved in giving an athlete improper gifts.

Ohio State was placed on three years' probation by the NCAA Friday. The university will have to repay all tournament revenues for the four years in which Boban Savovic played and take down its 1999 Final Four banner.

The NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions penalized O'Brien and Biancardi for a booster giving improper gifts, including housing and cash, to Savovic. The penalty for Biancardi prohibited him from recruiting until Oct. 1, 2007.

Wright State was 13-15 this past season. In three years under Biancardi, the Raiders were 42-44.
