Mamat wins the Singapore Open

SINGAPORE, March 12 (UPI) -- Mardan Mamat of Singapore Sunday recorded a wire-to-wire win at the OSIM Singapore Masters in Singapore.

Mamat shot a final round 1-under 71 and finished at 12-under-par 276, one stroke better than defending champion Nick Dougherty. It was his first title on the European Tour. He captured the Royal Challenge Indian Open in March of 2004 on the Asian Tour, which co-sanctioned the event along with the European Tour.

Also, Mamat became the first native of Singapore to capture an event on the European Tour.

Dougherty birdied the 72nd hole to put pressure on Mamat and also shot a 1-under 71 on Sunday to end at 11-under-par 277.

Malaysian Open champion Charlie Wi (71) and Ross Fisher (71), who began the final round tied for third place, finished tied for third at 10-under 278 ahead of Jonathan Lomas (66) and Chapchai Nirat (71). For his title, Mamat earned $138,560.
