COL BKB: Memphis 69, Houston 62

MEMPHIS, March 5 (UPI) -- Rodney Carney had 17 points and seven rebounds Saturday night as 3rd-ranked Memphis beat Houston, 69-62, to wrap up the regular-season crown in Conference USA.

Shawne Williams added 13 points and eight rebounds; Darius Washington Jr. had 12 points and three assists; and freshman Chris Douglas-Roberts had eight points, three assists and two blocked shots for the Tigers (27-3, 13-1 Conference-USA), who won their first conference title outright since the 1994-95 Great Midwest Conference championship.

Jahmar Thorpe had 25 points and rebounds; Chris Lawson had 11 points, an assist and a rebound and Ramon Dyer had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars (19-8, 9-5 C-USA), who have lost only twice in their last 11 games.

Memphis out-rebounded Houston, 38-33.

Houston's leading scorer, Oliver Lafayette, was limited to just two points.
