Nadal, Ljubicic advance at Marseilles

MARSEILLES, France, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Rafael Nadal and Ivan Ljubicic were among Thursday's second-round winners at the Open 13 tennis tournament in Marseilles, France.

Nadal, the reigning French Open champion and top seed, beat crowd favorite Gilles Simon, 7-5, 6-4. The red-hot Ljubicic, seeded second in this event, was a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 winner over Igor Andreev.

Elsewhere, Mario Ancic topped qualifier Jean-Christophe Faurel, 6-3, 6-3; world No. 6 Nikolay Davydenko was ousted by Evgeny Korolev 6-4, 7-6 (8-6); Paul-Henri Mathieu knocked off seventh-seeded Radek Stepanek 7-6 (7-0), 6-3; Fabrice Santoro beat Greg Rusedski 6-3, 6-2; and Sebastien Grosjean beat Mikhail Youzhny, 6-3, 6-1; and Arnaud Clement downed Fernando Verdasco, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

On Friday, Santoro, who got his 400th career win on Wednesday, will face Clement; Ljubicic meets Joachim Johanon; Nadal plays Henri Mathieu and Ancic meets Grosjean.
