Ljubicic wins at the Open 13 tournament

MARSEILLES, France, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Ivan Ljubicic was one of the winners Wednesday at the Open 13 tennis tournament in Marseilles, France.

The second-seeded Ljubicic beat Paradorn Srichaphan, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, to avoid the upset bug that hit No. 4 Thomas Johansson and fifth-seeded Richard Gasquet.

Johansson, who won the 2002 Australian Open, lost to Fabrice Santoro, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).

No. 6 Mario Ancic beat Marcos Baghdatis, 6-2, 6-7 (9-11), and eighth-seeded Sebastien Grosjean beat Monfils 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. Three weeks ago, Baghdatis, 20, became the first-ever player from Cyprus to reach a Grand Slam final when he lost to Roger Federer in the title match at the Australian Open.

Also, Paul-Henri Mathieu topped Jerome Haehnel, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, Fernando Verdasco ousted Jurgen Melzer 6-4, 7-6 (7-3); and Jean-Christophe Faurel beat Feliciano Lopez, 6-3, 6-3.
