Mirza romps in Bangalore tennis opener

BANGALORE, India, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Indian sensation Sania Mirza easily won her first test in the inaugural Bangalore Open tennis tournament Tuesday.

She defeated German Martina Muller 6-2, 6-2 on her home turf and will take on France's Camille Pin next.

Mirza was joined in the second round by third-seeded Mara Santangelo of Italy, who beat Slovak Henrieta Nagyova, 6-3, 6-2.

Russian Anastassia Rodionova upset fourth-seeded Austrian Sybille Bammer 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 and Ukrainian Yuliana Fedak won over eighth-seeded Finn Emma Laine 6-3, 2-1. Laine retired after the third game of the second set due to tonsillitis.
