TURIN, Italy, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- The United States and Canada both picked up their second Olympic women's hockey victory Sunday, although the Canadians' numbers were more impressive.
Meghan Agosta scored three times on five shots and Canada produced seven goals in the first period to crush Russia, 12-0. That triumph came less than 24 hours after the Canadians had overwhelmed Italy, 16-0.
The Americans also produced their second straight shutout, 5-0 over Germany, after blanking Switzerland Saturday, 6-0. Sarah Parsons scored twice in Sunday's contest.
Both Team USA and Canada locked up spots in the semifinals and have one more round-robin game Tuesday before the medal round. The Americans will play Finland and Canada will take on Sweden.
This is the third Olympics in which women's hockey has been contested and the United States and Canada have played for the gold medal in the previous two. They split those two contests.
