WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- The Washington Nationals have sold the contract of infielder Jamey Carroll to Colorado for $300,000.
Carroll, 32, was a favorite player of Manager Frank Robinson because of his attitude, versatility and hustle, but became expendable after the recent signing of free agent shortstop Royce Clayton.
"I'm going to miss Jamey very much," Robinson said on the team's Web site. "What he did for me for three-plus years, you couldn't ask for anything more. I don't know what I'm going to do without him. You can't find Jamey Carrolls every day. It's not just what he brings to the field, it's the type of person that he is."
Carroll batted .251 in 2005, with no home runs and 22 RBI in 303 at-bats -- and had a 1.000 fielding average. He has hit .269 for his career.
