Super Bowl MVP vote total sets record

NEW YORK, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- SuperBowl.com announced Wednesday that a record number of fans voted online Sunday for the Most Valuable Player in Super Bowl XL.

The total of 657,217 was 40 percent higher than last year's count. The online vote had the same result as the media vote, with Pittsburgh wide receiver Hines Ward being named the game's MVP.

Ward beat out teammates Ben Roethlisberger (quarterback), Jerome Bettis (running back), Antwaan Randle El (wide receiver) and guards Alan Faneca and Jeff Hartings.

Fan voting was compiled by wireless devices, including Sprint.
