NHL: Washington 4, Toronto 1

WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Mike Green scored his first NHL goal Friday night as Washington beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-1.

Brooks Laich, Ben Clymer and Chris Clark also scored goals; Brian Sutherby, Matt Pettinger, Alexander Ovechkin, and Chris Clark had assists while goaltender Olaf Kolzig made 25 saves as the Capitals (19-28-5), who are 2-4 in their last six games. Ovechkin, a solid Rookie of the Year candidate, returned to action after missing one game with a groin injury.

Mats Sundin scored the lone goal in the first period on assists from Darcy Tucker and Alexander Steen; and Ed Belfour made 26 saves on 30 shots for the Maple Leafs (25-23-5), who have lost two straight and 10 of their last 11 games overall.

The Capitals out-shot the Maple Leafs, 30-26. The teams combined to go scoreless on five power play opportunities.
