Jaguars hire Mike Tice

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice has joined the staff of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tice, 46, was fired as Vikings' coach the day after the 2005 regular season ended with a 34-10 Minnesota victory over the Chicago Bears. He had been named the team's interim head coach for the final game of the 2001 season after Dennis Green was fired.

With the Jaguars, he will be assistant head coach for offense. It will be the first time he has coached for a team other than the Vikings.

Tice and Jacksonville Coach Jack Del Rio are former Vikings' teammates.

"Mike will certainly be a tremendous asset to me and our offensive staff," said Del Rio.

Tice began his coaching career as Minnesota's tight ends coach in 1995. In four seasons as head coach, his record was 32-32 with two playoff appearances.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press said Tice signed a two-year, $2 million contract with Jacksonville.
