MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Kevin Pittsnogle scored 22 points Wednesday night as 11th-ranked West Virginia edged Notre Dame, 71-70.
Mike Gansey had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists; Joe Herber added 10 points, three assists and two rebounds; and Patrick Bielein had nine points, four rebounds and two assists for the Mountaineers (16-4, 7-0 Big East), who remained the conference's only undefeated team. They snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Fighting Irish.
Chris Quinn totaled 24 points, three rebounds and three assists; Colin Falls had 18 points, two rebounds and two assists and Rick Cornett scored 10 points for Notre Dame (10-9, 1-7 Big East), which lost its fourth game in a row. The Irish had a 37-23 advantage in rebounding, led by Torin Frances and Russell Carter with 10 each.
Falls missed a potential game-winning jump shot as time expired. West Virginia made only seven turnovers; Notre Dame committed 15.
