COL BKB: Villanova 72, NotreDame 70

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Ind., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A basket by Kyle Lowry with 1.7 seconds left to play Saturday lifted 6th-ranked Villanova to a 72-70 win over Notre Dame.

Lowry scored only four points.

Allan Ray had 23 points and 10 rebounds; Mike Nardi scored 22 points; and Randy Foye had 18 points, four assists and three rebounds for the Wildcats (15-2, 6-1 Big East), who have won four in a row.

Chris Quinn had 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists; Russell Carter had 14 points and six rebounds; Kyle McAlarney had 13 points and four rebounds; and Torin Francis added 11 points and six rebounds for the Fighting Irish (10-8, 1-6 Big East), who suffered their third straight loss.

The Wildcats had a 34-33 advantage in rebounding. Notre Dame was guilty of 13 turnovers to only seven by Villanova.
